For 16 years he played Army one weekend a month and two weeks a year. Then on 9/11 he came home, silently went upstairs and dragged his gear down from the 3rd floor, expecting the call that evening, I guess. That's when it hit me, "Oh, now I get it..."

Dad came over today and hung all the artwork your mom gave us. He also mowed the lawn. It was a fine spring day, around 65, not a cloud in the sky. The kids went to the yard sales in the Wood and picked out some videos at the library. Tomorrow we will go see Spiderman; it was all I could do to hold them off another day...
Mailed the pie cooker Thursday; hope it makes it OK. The box was a bit big, ~150” in girth, will see if they let it slip through. Also, two cans of cherry and one can of apple pie filling. Oh, yeah, I slipped in some chips and salsa per your request LOL
Rex called yesterday. He will be in Kandahar on AP assignment during the month of June...
Let’s get the siding thing squared away when you get back from the mission as I am looking forward to have a house that I can be proud of. It’s been a long haul to make it to this point and I want you to pull up to the curb when you get home and SMILE.
Next boxes out Monday. Lots of goodies, including some special treats I picked up at Sam’s while the kids were in circus camp. D.

I hope that your day was not all that hectic and you got your missions done (cleaning out the fish tank chief among them ;-). I cooked the after dinner meal using couscous which was a hit for the uninitiated. Had the curry suprise. Awaiting the rice cooker as we have no shortage of that. Still missing you and will send some more snail mail. Will try to hook up with you this morning or save some time for me in about 12 hours or Saturday afternoon. I should be out of comms for an unknown period of time; a day can turn into a week. Some of these little jobs turn into real projects. I hope that the kids are doing ok. A captain who lives with me asked who did the metal art refering to Amandas drawing on the metal. Most of the people do not have older kids at least in my tent. Well I am going to crash lots of love and kisses all around. Love Chris/Dad

Dear Chris, Just read your letter on the blog and found I sent you the wrong onions. Well, that's what happens when you send a city girl for onions! Sorry. Will go to the green onion set store and see what I can find. We all miss you, I didn't think I'd miss being nervened, but I do! I think the kids thought you would be popping in from time to time like you did when you were at Campbell. All of a sudden the reality set in that you are far away. Debbie is working like a trooper, doing too much as usual, she roped me into CISV so I'm doing the thing I hate most, making phone calls. We hope that all this activity will make the time go faster. Just sent a card to your mom (who had surgery Friday and is doing very well, all things considered). Jenny and Brian are doing a good job of taking care of her. Not much doing here, am going to Ireland next month for a few days. Trying to think about the kids going to Longs in June, they seem to be excited about the horses and paintball. NIck and I leave for Ansbach in Germany on July 3. Tomorrow night Lauren will be honored for being one of the top 10 students at middle school. Daniel and Shae are coming up for the ceremony. We are praying for your return ASAP. Love, Y
